After a brief introduction, the participants choose a Monet landscape to recreate with some guidance from the teacher - everyone will paint the same picture in the class. No one will ever paint the same picture twice - unless by request. We discuss the selected painting’s key features and I give some background information about the painting & Monet’s life at the time it was painted. We start by breaking down the composition into simple elements (the skeleton). It is a clear step-by-step process - I demonstrate first then the participants follow. Next, we move onto paint (the flesh). Again, I demonstrate the application process and explain the order in which the paint is applied. Even at this stage the learner will begin to see a resemblance to the Monet original. After the first hour, we take a break to stretch and refresh, in the meantime the teacher quickly dries the paintings using hairdryers. Once the pictures are dry we move on to the final stage, which is to apply the ‘painted’ surface (the skin). We use oil pastel to replicate Monet’s brush work. Each technique of application is demonstrated first, the participant needs only to follow the process. After 2 hours each participant will have created an accurate impression of the great Impressionist’s work, something they will be proud to show off to family & friends alike.
I am the owner and founder of Monet Magic. I can train anyone, regardless of age, ability, or experience, to recreate a Monet landscape to a level that will cause the participant to amaze themselves. I have lived and worked as a practicing artist in Prague (Czech Republic), Espoo (Finland), Jakarta (Indonesia) and the UK. I taught iGCSE Art and Design at an international school in Jakarta, I have also taught art in a variety of private art class settings. Monet Magic developed from a mixed-medium technique that was designed to give students confidence. The technique allows anyone to create an accurate rendition of a Monet painting with incredible depth and sumptuous colour in a very short space of time. Just keep an open mind and follow some very simple instructions. The rest of the process happens as if...by magic.
