Let's Kayak down the gentle, scenic, and historic Tennessee River! First, we will meet at Volunteer Landing (Take-out point) and I will drive you to Ijams River Landing where the trip starts. Before entering the water, I will give a brief safety and how-to speech and describe our trip. Then, I will assist each person into their kayak and we will start down the river. Along the way, I will point out wildlife and landmarks, providing facts and history. In all, we will kayak for 1-3 hours depending on the river speed. We will stop at some point in the middle of the trip for a water, bathroom, and a snack break. Once we arrive back at Volunteer Landing, I will assist you out of the kayaks and collect gear. You may stay and have lunch at Calhoun's on the River and depart at your leisure.
I've been a scenic rafting guide in Alaska for 5 years, a whitewater guide on the Pigeon River for a year, and a wildlife tour guide in various locations for 3 years. I have a passion for river adventures and teaching visitors about history, geography, wildlife, and ecosystems. I've been certified by the US Coast Guard to lead commercial trips on protected bodies of water like Skilak Lake in Alaska. I've also been certified in Swift Water Rescue, First Aid and CPR, and Wilderness First Responder. I love the charm of the Tennessee River with it's wildlife, history, and landmarks--I want to show off this river to visitors and other enthusiasts!

Tandem kayaks available upon request to book over 4 guests. The Tennessee River is gentle and suitable for beginners. You will be paddling your own kayak for 1-3 hours with breaks, so you should be able to perform low intensity paddling for that length of time. Be prepared to swim if you choose!
