The tour lasts between 2.5 and 3 hours. We will visit some very well known sites and also hidden gems. I try to go deeper in the history of Madrid to highlight the singularities, triumphs and failures that define the Spanish heritage, character, art, literature and culture. My goal is to explain what these historical sites mean and tell us about the city and the Spain of today. From the Islamic times and the early “Christian” Madrid, to the capital of an empire and then the struggles of the “Romantic Madrid” of the XVIII and XIX centuries that ended with the tragedy of the Civil War and the Franco regime. It’s a story with a happy ending with the arrival of democracy and fredom! I hope that at the end of the tour you will get to see some meaningful places, appreciate the personality of the city and its inhabitants and also have an overview on how Madrid and Spain became as it is, with its wonders and shadows.

I am a journalist in some of the best outlets of Spain. I also have published two novels (Dinámica de los cuerpos eléctricos, Taksim) and I have directed and award winning short film. I began deepening in the history of Madrid and its secret sites writing (and making photos) for an important newspaper. I also publish articles about cinema on a weekly basis. I was born and raced in Barcelona and after more tan 20 years living in Madrid, the city still surprises and fascinates me. I have traveled a lot in my life and I feel privileged to show this wonderful city to visitors.
The first part of the tour is more focused in the “Madrid of Los Austrias”, in the XVI and XVII century, and the second part in the Borbonic and modern period. We will also find traces of the old Islamic and Christian Madrid. We will visit, among others, the Royal Palace and Oriente Square, the Sabatini gardens, the Monastery of “la Encarnación”, Plaza Ramales, San Nicolás de los Servitas, La Latina, prine of Anglona gardens.
