Originally a Christmas tradition, locals have been buying delicious sweets from Seville’s convents for centuries. Nowadays, the nuns here sell their homemade sweets to support themselves and continue to live within their convents. The recipes that they use have been passed down for hundreds of years and truly are the authentic Spanish dessert experience. On this daytime desert tour, we will tour 5 cloistered convents in the city, where the pastry bakeries prepare pastries and other baked goods using traditional methods. We will experience two traditional ways of doing sales. We will also taste some of them and l will share with you the traditional recipes. Behind Closed Doors – where nuns keep themselves hidden from the public eye and you have to use special greeting to buy the sweets. Face-to-Face - displaying the sweets out in front of you to see and handle before purchasing Sweets you can taste: Pestinos Magdalenes Yemas Almendradas Turron a la Piedra Pinonades - marzipan balls rolled in pine nuts Orange marmalades One of the monasteries has a private art collection run by nuns. This will be also included in the visit. After the visit, you can buy some of your favourite sweets. These items would make great gifts for loved ones back home. The sweets are packaged very professionally.
