This experience is aimed at an introductory level and no experience is necessary.Beginners are most welcome. When you arrive at my house, we will take the three minute walk down to the beach. Along the shoreline we will look at driftwood until we find the piece that feels right for you and we can see the potential for a spoon. Also one you can complete easily in the time allocation. You will use a sharp knife to carve out the shape of the spoon, and a chisel and sandpaper for the bowl area.We will then use sandpaper to smooth and finish, lastly we will oil it to bring out the grain. You can now use your spoon to serve or eat with. I will suggest great cafes and coastal walks to try out at the end of the experience.
As a Artist I have used many different mediums to express my wild creative flow. Surprisingly I find Carving Driftwood Spoons ticks ALL my creative boxes. Eating off your own small work of beach art takes the experience to a whole new level. D.W.S. are compact and easily transportable, perfect for the traveller with limited space for tools or finished work. D.W.S.carving is a great formula for taking a deep breath into the wellspring of intuition and mindfulness that sits quietly waiting within us all.Time drops away surrounded by Nature and a never ending supply of Driftwood . I am an inspirer. I love encouraging people to create, to make a start and see what emerges. As with people, each and every spoon is unique. A trained Secondary teacher I have run many courses in and out of the studio with all age groups, some at corporate level.
I will provide knives for carving sandpaper and a chisel.
