We will spend the experience metal detecting and relic hunting at a historic site in the Adirondacks. The day will begin with a brief overview of the site's history, followed by a primer on general metal detecting rules and etiquette. Expert instruction on how to operate the metal detecting equipment to be used, as well as proper techniques for artifact recovery, will then complete the introductory portion of the experience. After the introduction, participants will spend the bulk of the time "hunting" the historic site for artifacts, coins, jewelry, tools, bottles, etc. (The recovery of these artifacts will be in full accordance with local laws and property owner permissions.) Participants may keep their finds! We will take a break during the experience to enjoy a packed lunch onsite. At the end of the experience, the host will aid the participants with artifact identification, and will provide instruction on proper cleaning and preservation of the finds.
I am an expert metal detectorist, artifact recovery specialist and historical researcher with more than 15 years of field experience. I have extensive knowledge of the Lake George/Adirondack Region and its historical locations. My passion is for digging and recovering historical artifacts from a wide range of sites, ranging from the 18th century through the mid-20th century. During my many years of digging I have recovered an incredible array of items, including coins, jewelry, militaria and more. I also enjoy cleaning, restoring and presenting these rare finds.
Packed lunch (if requested).
I will provide a metal detector and digging tool, if needed.
We will "hunt" for artifacts at special locations where I have researched the history and if necessary, obtained special permission for the activity.
Trips are conducted weather permitting. Your fee will be refunded if the trip needs to be canceled due to inclement weather, illness of host, etc.
