Jakobsbakken is a former mining village by the entrance to "the last great wilderness" in Europe - the UNESCO World Heritage Area of Laponia. At Jakobsbakken Mountain Resort you will explore one of the largest untouched wilderness areas in Europe. Join a true Arctic Adventure, where you can experience snowstorms, Northern Lights, the polar lights, and the Arctic wilderness. Explore the Sami culture, the history of the former mining community, and try local food with ingredients from the mountains. Our main goal when you visit us is that you feel "like home". Jakobsbakken is ideally situated on the Northern Lights oval, the area where it is most likely to experience the Northern Lights. From 1. September to 1. April there are good opportunities to see the northern lights because of minimal light pollution. We will show you to areas without light pollution to chase for the northern lights and let you experience a majestic coloring game that dances in heaven in one of Norway's most awesome surroundings. Lie in the snow and become one with nature, while the only thing you hear is your own pulse and the wind blowing. The clean air and the sound of silence that nature here can give you is a therapy for both body and mind. Whether you want to try dog sledding, go snowshoeing ice fishing waters, the beautiful mining town above the Arctic Circle is the right place for you.

I and my family have quit our regular jobs to create Norway's most awesome travel destination. We have founded Jakobsbakken Mountain Resort, which is an accommodation at the entrance to "The last great wilderness in Europe". We want to offer unique experiences that create memories of a lifetime. We´re a company with local belonging and ownership. All employees are located in Sulitjelma, which means that you will get a close relation and a close follow-up from guides and owners, and the locals in the community as well. We will let you immerse in the destination, learn about the culture, and meet the Sami and locals. The company consists of me, Mona Mosti, and Thor Åge Jensen. We have unique local knowledge and experience. We have explored the mountains in both Sulitjelma and Laponia, and are guides with solid knowledge about history.
There is very little traffic in the last half of the trip, the road from Fauske to Jakobsbakken. There you can actually drive all the way without meeting a single car.
