We will experience the peace and serenity of hiking in scenic Scottsdale. Hiking is a great way to get out of the city while still being in the city. We will hike for 1.5-2.5 hours at a pace that works for you all while having fun, getting some exercise, and enjoying scenic views at elevation or in washes. Saguaro cacti, ocotillo, creosote, foothills palo verde, and jumping cholla amongst many other desert plants will be visible. Wildlife like quail, mule deer, javelina, roadrunners, coyotes, various lizards, and rattlesnakes may be encountered on our hike. We will enter the desert on Lost Dog Wash Trailhead and approach the first wash fairly quick. Once we reach our first stop, we will enjoy the view and grab some water. We will then continue on enjoying more scenic views of the desert plants, rocky surfaces, and potential wildlife. You'll notice how quickly we find peace in the desert at various elevations along the trail. We will stop halfway through our hike near the Old Jeep Trail/Ringtail Trail intersection and take another water break as well as a snack for those who need some food energy. We will continue our loop back to the parking lot. You'll be amazed at the distance we cover and various directions we've traveled. Anyone is encouraged to sign up for this experience whether you exercise regularly or not.

We will be hiking in the McDowell Mountains starting at Lost Dog Wash Trail and utilizing other trails that provide peaceful viewing of desert vegetation, dry washes, rocky surfaces, and wildlife. Giant saguaro will provide photo opportunities. You'll have to be lucky and quick for wildlife photos. Most importantly we will be having fun, exercising, and taking in nature from a desert perspective that you may never forget the rest of your life.
Water and sunscreen are a must have with desert hiking. Adequate clothing for the temperature and time of year is something to consider. Proper foot attire is very helpful when hiking. Sunglasses and a hat may be important for those with sensitive eyes and skin.
