We'll meet at our dog foster space, providing guests an opportunity to meet our rescue dogs available for adoption, see the facilities, and learn more about street dogs in Mexico. From there we'll head out on a nearby hiking trail at the foothills of the Oaxacan mountains, with the company of one of our fun-loving dogs.
I've been working unofficially to help street dogs since 2015, when I started hosting art workshops in Guatemala and Mexico, in communities with high street dog populations in desperate need. I officially began Caravana Canina, an animal rescue project based in Oaxaca, Mexico in April 2019. Our organization emphasizes street dog population control via hosting spay and neuter campaigns, as well as health and adoption services and animal welfare education programs. I have two rescue pups of my own, Bowie from Guatemala and Tuna from Oaxaca.
We will provide light and healthy snacks for the hike. Please come with a full water bottle and having already eaten…
We will have leashes for the dogs as well as a basic first aid kit.
San Felipe del Agua is a small neighborhood situated north of Oaxaca City center at the base of the Oaxacan mountains. Our walk will take us through small towns and into a rural mountain trail.
