On your guided walk I'll show you around the older part of this lovely cemetery. I'll take you to the very heart of it and show you the history rarely found by vistors. You will see a whole range of fallen and failing angels, where survivors of "The Charge of the Light Brigade" and "Zulu" are buried, where Treasure is hidden and I'll tell you how balloonists and boxers were finally bought down to earth here. If you are interested in taking your own photographs I'll help you to get the best shots and if you don't have a camera I can take photos for you. I'll show you the latest Netflix film locations and we'll end our walking tour near a butterfly designed library financed by one of America's richest businessmen ever, Andrew Carnegie. If you want to go to tea afterwards I can show you where Captain Scott is remembered with a lighthouse in a lake, which is incidentally not far from where Jimmy Hendrix spent the night on an island after a Cardiff concert.
I'm a teacher and storyteller who can guide you through Cardiff's buried history. We'll find it among the graves, angels and wildlife of one of the largest and most beautiful of cemeteries. I've mapped much of the site for angels but there is always something new to learn and see on a walk here. Whatever the season or weather, and it does rain a lot in Cardiff, it will be a pleasure to share it with you.
The cemetry is one of the largest Victorian cemeteries in Britain and was designed to be an open place of recreation for the people of Cardiff to enjoy, as well as a place for stillness and contemplation. Thus it's full of nature, wild life and it's a lovely place to visit at any of time of the year.
The walk is on footpaths around the cemetry and the area is mostly flat. However, in wet weather the paths in parts can be muddy and you are advised to wear good walking shoes.
