We meet outside the friendly local Pub, the White Lion, where we choose our route together to cater for the needs of our group. We will set off into the beautiful countryside around Great Longstone, taking time to notice & talk about the plants we meet along the way, their gifts, their stories. We will gather some wild herbs to make a cup of Herbal Tea en route. After a beautiful walk, full of facts & entertaining anecdotes, you will return to the historic village of Great Longstone seeing the plant world in a whole new light! If you can’t find the date or time you want to book this beautiful Herb Walk for, please contact me with your request, I will try to arrange it for you!
I love to share my passion for plants, a fascination for human-plant interactions through time: in medicine, food, culture, history..... I have a BSc Honours degree in Herbal Medicine, am a practicing Medical Herbalist & have been leading much loved Herb Walks around the Peak District for nearly 2 years. I also have a degree in Modern Languages & literature, with a special interest in folk tales, many of which interweave with the plant world. I bring Herb Walks to life with folk tales, making their learning & gifts more memorable. I have lived in the Peak District for over 25 years, working for many years in the great outdoors with animals. My special canine companion Pepper comes with us on our Walks, providing an extra perspective on things. He loves people & children, & is a memorable, characterful & cheerful soul.
Healthy snacks, gluten free on request.
Freshly gathered Wild Herb Tea
Great Longstone has a beautiful church, who’s doors are always open, two great pubs, a farm shop, selling milk & yoghurt fresh from the cow. A walk along footpaths & across fields above the village soon comes to Longstone Edge, commanding spectacular views. Below Great Longstone is easy access to the Monsall trail with a good all weather track along the disused railway.
Warm waterproof clothing & footwear
This will be a gentle to medium walk depending which route we choose together. Please dress for the changeable Peak District weather. If you have any special requirements or health or mobility concerns, please let me know before the walk. Thank you!
