On the tour, enter an underground hydroponic farm that delivers delicious and rare herbs to New York’s top chef. Before entering this urban oasis, you’ll don biosecure clothing and toast to new tastes with a complimentary glass of prosecco. Once inside the farm, you'll have the opportunity to explore the farm's high-tech systems and operations, as well as taste 15-20 of the nearly 100 varieties of herbs growing on the farm, all guided by an expert Farm. One gardener. Depending on the greens growing at the time, you might sample the fuzzy lavender petals of anise-hyssop flowers—minty with a light licorice flavor—or the surprisingly piney tang of raw cilantro berries. You’ll experience tastes you’ve never tasted before, all picked right off the stem of the subterranean farm.
Hi. I'm Paige, a member of the Atlas Obscura community. I’m the Events Director at Farm. One, Manhattan's only indoor, hydroponic, vertical farm. Growing rare herbs, microgreens, and edible flowers, Farm. One supplies many of NYC's top restaurants and bars. I’ve been working with Farm. One since its start in 2016 and am one of seven managers overseeing the operation and growth of this high tech, high flavor company.
Farm. One's state-of-the-art farm is located in the basement of a landmark building that's also home to a two Michelin star restaurant, a veterinary clinic, and a physical therapy swimming pool for dogs.
IMPORTANT: THERE IS NO WAITING AREA FOR THE CLASS. Please arrive no more than 5 minutes early. There are plenty of bars, restaurants, and cafes in the area if you arrive early. We highly suggest checking out Tetsu for a cocktail.
