We will meet in the suburb of Newtown in the Inner West of Sydney; known for its inclusivity, edgy, alternative and eclectic style. We will walk along the popular King St strip and visit thrift stores (charity stores), vintage stores and brands that are sustainable, made locally as well as social enterprises. I will be there to give you an education on sustainable fibres, styling advice, how to look for and find quality second-hand pieces and teach you what to look for to build a conscious and sustainable wardrobe. With 10 years of styling experience, you'll have access to my expert advice throughout the tour. I am also a keynote speaker on these areas and have presented my ideas at retail + industry festivals, on podcasts, live radio and at tommie magazine events. I will be able to share with you statistics behind sustainable fashion and how this relates to climate change, women's' rights and how shopping with a more conscious outlook can empower communities that are vulnerable by shopping at charity stores. Having lived in Sydney my whole life, and this particular suburb for 10 years, I also have lots of insider tips on the best cafes, restaurants, bars and things to see and do. This will be a day of conscious connection, learning, fun and celebrating each individual and their unique identity and sense of style through the art of dress and play! I do hope you will join me!
Hi there, I'm Nat, an eco-fashion stylist who's worked in the industry for the last 10 years, who wanted to see change with ethical & sustainable clothing celebrated instead of disposable, fast fashion. As a lifelong lover of wearing thrift & vintage pieces, personal style & individuality is key to me. I wanted to prove that you never have to compromise style when you shop second hand. I set out on a mission to start an online magazine & real-life community - tommie magazine - dedicated to clothing that was preloved, made fair & with integrity that tread lightly on the planet. As a person who is passionate about social justice, I wanted to be able to use the power of dress for good, & have also become the first National retail eco-stylist for Save the Children op shops Australia wide; helping people choose preloved first over buying new.
We'll meet for coffee & have a casual chat to learn more about what it is you're looking for. We will travel by foot & visit each store for about 20mins which is why I have designed this tour to be a little longer - there is lots to see! We will visit the South end & North End of King St, as well as Enmore Rd home to hidden second hand & vintage gems. This area is the most concentrated strip left in Sydney featuring small business & preloved.
We may catch a bus from one end of King St to the other, please bring some change for bus fare. I want you to have the best experience possible so feel free to contact me about shops you'd prefer to see & whether you have a preference for vintage, charity or locally made brands.
