You will come to my studio in the heart of Grizedale Forest in the lake district. You will have the unique opportunity to ink and hand burnish a tree round which has been prepared by me to be a printable surface and ready to reveal all its intricate shapes and structure. To print the wood involves using a small hand held tool to apply pressure through rubbing the paper. It's a mindful, relaxing process of working with your hands and allows you to feel the contours of the wood as you work. You will have time to make a number of prints during your workshop which will be worthy of framing and hanging on your wall.
I am an artist printmaker and I print trees! I came to Grizedale Forest in the Lake District after my solo exhibition here and after appearing on BBC Countryfile showing my technique of printing tree rounds. I gained my printmaking skills through 6 years demonstrating wood engraving and traditional printing to visitors at Cherryburn, the National Trust museum to the famous wood engraver and naturalist Thomas Bewick. I also appeared on BBC Flog It, and I showed Robson Green how to engrave wood on Further Tales from Northumberland.
