I will meet you at the trail head with a bottle of cold water and a smile! We will then start our hike into the Tucson Mountains, which will take us through one of the largest Saguaro forests on Earth! One of the highlights of our experience and discussion will be these amazing Saguaro Cactus (pronounced “sah-wah-roh”). These giant cacti are unique to the Sonoran Desert. We will also discuss the various plants and animals of the Sonoran Desert as I point out the unique characteristics of each one. As the spring season approaches, we will also witness various wildflowers and cactus blooms. I find this time of year very exciting, as the desert will provide us with a different experience with each hike! I will also provide information about the general geology, history and weather of this unique desert. Expect to see some of our local birds as well as a variety of birds migrating north as Spring approaches. We will hike out to the Bowen Homestead, also known as the Old Stone House, well hidden along the Camino de Oeste Wash. This is a wonderful opportunity to explore one of the earliest built homes in the Tucson Mountains and learn about it's history.
I have been enjoying the beauty of this very unique desert environment for over 25 years. Hiking and mountain biking are two of my favorite activities! I have worked for many years as a professional hiking and mountain bike guide at some of the finest resorts in the Tucson area and I love sharing my knowledge and experience with others. I spend many hours each week immersed in this spectacular desert landscape! I am also an Army Veteran, Registered Nurse, certified in First Aid/ CPR, with a current Fingerprint Clearance Card and will make your safety a priority. Whether you are visiting from another state, country or the local Tucson area, I’m sure my approach to exploring the Sonoran Desert will be an enjoyable, informative, uplifting experience. Join me as we explore the beauty and diversity of this unique Sonoran Desert!
I will provide a cold bottle of water and an energy bar for each guest. I will also be carrying extra water and a first aid…
We will hike out to the old Bowen Stone House, one of the best preserved, but hard to find, historic homes in the Tucson Mountains.
最多10人參加，不限年齡。 Children are welcome, but parents should make good judgements as to whether their children are physically, mentally and emotionally equipped for what could be a difficult 2 hour hike for them. Thank you!
Closed toes shoes are recommended. Tennis shoes are ok, hiking shoes better. Sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat are also suggested; hiking stick if desired.
The trails are suitable for most people of any age. However, we will be hiking on mountainous desert trails which are rocky, sandy and surrounded by cactus. The desert can be hot and dry. Please drink plenty of water and bring sun protection, hiking poles if desired.
