No matter if you're a complete beginner or have some writing experience, we can help kick start your creativity with a day-long workshop in Brighton. Whether you want help with the start of a novel, have a short story that needs fine tuning or this is the first class in writing fiction that you have taken, Bridget and I can help improve your skills in a supportive, confidence-boosting environment. The workshop will take place in my home close to Brighton station. You and up to five others will be welcomed into my cosy living room with its fire and long dining table ideal for relaxed chat and writing. In summer we'll be outside on the pretty patio. We'll cover the following topics: * Character creation - making characters memorable and believable * First and third person storytelling - exploring your choices * Plotting - where to start, how to stop a flabby middle, endings * Showing vs telling - how it brings fiction alive * Writing description - a sensory experience to stimulate the imagination * Editing - a hands-on exercise in enlivening existing text Plus two subjects rarely covered in writing courses: * Feedback - how to survive critical comments * Firing the imagination - thinking outside the every day You'll be served lunch and get to explore too. Above all we hope you'll take away a little piece of 'us' - our understanding of publishing and passion for writing.
Readers say 'a Sarah Rayner book is like having a no-holds-barred chat with a close friend' and I love chatting about writing. I'm the author of 5 novels including the international bestseller, One Moment, One Morning. In 2014 I published Making Friends with Anxiety which grew into a non-fiction series with a substantial on-line following. I've sold over 500,000 books worldwide, but my first foray into fiction was writing short stories for women's magazines. My co-host is creative writing guru Bridget Whelan, whose writing career took off when she won $4000 in an international story competition. It kick-started a new career and now she has an MA in Creative Writing from Goldsmiths College and lectures in the subject. My husbandTom, a chef, will cook delicious vegetarian food specially for us. He tends over-cater so expect big portions!
We will provide lunch (tart and salad or a hearty soup with fresh rolls depending on the season) made by my husband Tom, who…
On arrival, we'll serve fresh coffee or tea, and throughout the day you can help yourselves to water and soft drinks.
We will provide pens and paper and writing prompts.
Your creative writing day will be held our charming period home in central Brighton (our little blue house is 8 mins walk from the station). A long table in the light living/dining room will provide our work space and on colder days we'll light the fire so we can be really snug. In summer we'll be in the pretty south-facing patio which is bursting with flowers, enclosed by flint walls.
最多6人參加，年齡須滿18歲。 Suitable for all levels of creative writing experience.
In the months that we've been running our Creative Writing Experiences on AirBnB, we have welcomed people of all ages and levels of experience. Please don't worry about being 'good enough' or 'just a beginner' - the exercises are designed to work for everyone and aim to build confidence and skills.
