This is an exceptional opportunity to explore the world of our closest relatives, the chimpanzees. On this two night, three day safari trek, we will get close to them without disturbing their natural habitat. We will be mesmerized by the similarities between humans and chimps and hopefully return home more sensitive to protecting our planet. Gombe Stream National Park sits along the hills of the eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika. We welcome you to explore steep valleys and forest vegetation ranging from grassland to woodland to tropical rainforest. The park is accessible only by boat and is the location where Jane Goodall pioneered her behavioral chimpanzee research. Besides chimpanzees, primates inhabiting Gombe include beachcomber olive baboons, red colobus, red-tailed monkeys, blue monkeys, and vervet monkeys. The park is also home to over 200 bird species and bushpigs. There are also many species of snakes, and occasional hippopotami and leopards.
Jess From Safarisource
Safarisource Founder. Entrepreneurial anthropologist. Cape Town based. From Tanzania. At Safarisource, we connect local guides across Africa with travelers. I grew up in Tanzania and would spend the weekends in the wilderness. I returned as a PhD researcher in 2013 and worked with the Maasai community in Ngorongoro. Here I first heard about the sharing economy and Airbnb. Together with Loserian, who heads Safarisource in East Africa, we decided that we must build a safari network that is more inclusive of local communities. This safari will be led by a local guide and chimpanzee specialist in West Tanzania.
