We'll start off with our 1st beer and a tour of our building, a 16th Century prison and courthouse. We have some original features untouched for hundreds of years. We'll make our way down to the hidden vaults under our building, where you'll try a selection of 5 other local beers in the most hidden tasting room in Edinburgh. Along with learning about the beers from an expert guide and the history of brewing in Edinburgh, participants will get to see the secret rooms hidden in the old prison, as well as stories of prisoners who were held here- including some reckless stories of escape!
We're passionate about both Edinburgh and Beer. Our underground beer tasting uses only beers from a local Edinburgh brewery. We have been to their brew house several times to receive training from their staff, and are visited by them regularly for refresher courses, so are very knowledgeable about the product. As Edinburgh locals, we also provide recommendations and for the best hidden pubs and bars to get away from the tourist trail and mingle with the locals **Experiences in Spanish and German available on request dependant on availability**
Tasting of 6 local beers
The tasting will take place in the hidden vault under our converted prison, first housing prisoners in the 16th century.
The vaults can be a little chilly- we suggest at least a warm jumper, although we can provide blankets and a hot water bottle
Please be aware that the vault is accessed via about 20 steps- there is no lift/ramp access to the lower level. Check-in with reception staff at The Hostel above
