Hi! We meet up our bike shop on Kungsholmen a short walk from Central Station. On each tour, we will cycle on bike paths through the very heart of Stockholm and visit: Kungsholmen, Riddarholmen, Gamla Stan, Skeppsholmen, Östermalm, and Djurgarden. I will show you key historical sites, my favorite hidden places, and share Stockholm’s history. We'll ask questions! Which Swedish king found 14 "Semlas" a bit too much and why? Which famous woman helped introduce the potato/vodka to Sweden? Who invented the zipper? A Swede of course! My tour brings not only a unique perspective but, will help you save time and money by identifying areas of interest that speak to you and you can return to later. A special moment is when we stop for a "Swedish Fika" (Coffee break) at a charming out of the way cafe, set in the heart of Djurgården: Stockholm's largest park. A true Swedish experience! On our return back into the heart of the city, we wind our way through the posh Östermalm neighborhood. I'll show you a short cut from Gamlastan-Old Town to the city's busiest pedestrian street as well as point out Parliament, the Royal Opera and more. This tour is designed as an easy biking tour offering unique insight into Swedish culture. The tour will always be led by myself. I offer this tour in English, Spanish and French.
Hi! I'm Philip, the founder of Philip's Stockholm Tours, focusing on unique, experiential tours for experienced travelers in Stockholm. As a Senior Guide and Educator, I have a deep appreciation for the nuances of private tours. Via engaging walking tours based on history and culture, we'll explore Old Town and it's secrets at our pace! I have lived abroad for almost 40 years starting as a Peace Corps volunteer in Africa. My professional work life incorporated social entrepreneurship, creativity/design, & education. Along the way, I picked up French & Spanish. Prior to moving to Sweden, I lived in Chile for 27 years where I was Founding Director of Chile's largest TEFL Progam in Higher Education. These projects and many more have given me insight into the importance of authentic narrative, leadership, and authenticity when guiding.
Coffee Break is known as Swedish "Fika". Great coffee and a cinnamon bun or sweet.
Bikes are included.
We will continue towards the city center, passing by Riddarholmen, Gamla Stan, Skeppsholmen, and circle through Djurgården. On your tour, you will hear and feel the history of Old Town, the smells and tastes, and embrace the sights, sounds, and beauty of this marvelous city. We take a slow pace and approach and enjoy the moment. As we explore the city the mix of old and new comes alive. Whether you’re a Viking history buff or an ABBA fan.
Dress using the concept of "layers". Sunglasses are helpful as well.
This is an easy-paced bike tour. Helmets can be rented at the bike shop. Tips are appreciated by guides in Sweden!
