Get off the beaten track and see the real Sydney! See why this is the most popular walking Airbnb experience in Australia. Come join a fun and relaxed walk through the inner-city suburbs of Pyrmont, Ultimo and Glebe. Often ignored by visitors to Sydney, these old neighbourhoods are bursting with stories and hidden gems that even locals don't know about. On this walk you'll: - Learn why there are so many pubs in this part of Sydney and what a "VIP Lounge" is - Discover the Aboriginal and early European history of the area - Be surprised by my choice for Australia's "national dish" - See why this is one of the most multicultural parts of Australia - Gain an insight into our unique sense of humour and - Find out some Aussie slang along the way We'll stop for a coffee at my favourite cafe mid-way through the walk, and at the end, we finish with a glass of delicious local craft beer at one of the most unique pubs you'll find in Sydney - complete with a talking pet cockatoo! Note we walk about 3.2 km (2 miles) at a relaxed pace and a mostly flat route. We've had everyone from 3-year-olds to 80-year-olds complete the walk and it is pram/baby carriage friendly but please message us if you have any questions. PS My other Airbnb Experience is "Drink & Discover Secret Bar Crawl" (www.airbnb.com/experiences/378447). If you'd like to do both, send me a message to get a discount :)
My name is Justin and I'm a recovering lawyer. About 3 years ago I quit my corporate job to work in a happier industry - tourism! I love showing people around Sydney and host 2 of Sydney's top Airbnb Experiences. I've lived and worked in the Pyrmont/Glebe area for several years and really love this part of Sydney. Since starting this walk, I've shown over 800 guests my 'hood, including Airbnb's senior executives. I also run my own online travel agency (AussieYou Tours), so feel free to ask me anything about travel in Australia. I've solo travelled all through South America, Europe & Asia and lived in China - yep, I can speak Chinese! On some weekends my friend Atra will lead these walks. She's a Pyrmont local, lawyer during the week and fluent Japanese speaker. We can't wait to show you around! Check us out on IG @aussieyoutours!
Coffee (or tea) of your choice; Vegemite toast (done in a way that you'll enjoy it!)
One glass of local craft beer (or wine, juice or soft drink)
We'll begin our walk at Darling Harbour, meeting on the Pyrmont Bridge. From there, we'll meander through Pyrmont, Ultimo and finish in Glebe, a trendy inner-city suburb with lots of restaurants, cafes, bars and bookshops. We finish near Glebe Point Road at an authentic "outback pub" and very close to the fantastic Glebe markets (Saturdays only).
Do this early in your Sydney stay! This is an ideal activity for solo travellers, couples or small groups. Everyone is welcome and will feel safe and you'll be in a fun group of 6-12 people. If there's no availability, please message me! Private tours also available, message me for details.
