Travel back in time with us to the Amsterdam of WWII. Learn about Amsterdam’s rich Jewish history by passing landmarks of the Jewish quarter. Feel the emotion and hope of the Jewish population during the dark days of the war. Learn about Anne Frank and her family in hiding between 1942 and 1944. Our journey starts with a short introduction on why the first Jews fled to Amsterdam to avoid persecution in the 16th century. We will then explore the old Jewish Quarter together. We pass the Portuguese Synagogue, the city's oldest park, our favorite street, the Dutch theater, monuments, memorials, and several other hidden gems along the canals. We tell stories and showing pictures that will make history feel within arm's reach. Take you to our favorite cafe where we treat you with the best coffee and apple pie in town, while enjoying a view of the city zoo. This tour also focuses on the acts of resistance, as well as how the events of the past have shaped the city today and what the people of Amsterdam do the commemorate the past. Rather than a somber story of loss and sorrow, our tour's theme is tolerance and hope, because, as Anne Frank wrote, "Don't think of all the misery, but of all the beauty that still remain.
My name is Stephan, I have lived in Amsterdam for 15+ years, and I organize private tours in and around Amsterdam together with my friends. After a career in online marketing, I decided to switch careers and do what I like best: showing people the undiscovered nooks and cracks of the city. Together with Vince and Guido I am running this unique, personal, and engaging experience. Vince: Combines his deep historical knowledge with years of experience in public speaking. He has lived in Amsterdam for 11 years. Guido: Born and raised in Amsterdam, right next to the Anne Frank House. He combines his passion for the city with a life of writing theater, comedy, music, and screenplays.

This experience is about 2,5 hours walking outside in the old Jewish quarter (with several stops). During the experience we will see several Jewish landmarks from the outside like the Portuguese synagogue (1675), the Dutch Theater, and various other landmarks. The Jewish quarter is inside our beautiful canal district so we will stroll along several canals. We also stop for coffee and apple pie to regain our energy and get to know each other more.
