In this 45 minute-long session, you'll learn how to come up with chords for your original song. Anne will teach the basics of music theory and harmony, helping you understand what a triad is, what chords go together, and why. You'll learn about "Nashville Numbers" music notation and learn the basics of chart reading. If you have a guitar, ukulele, or piano, Anne will help you learn how to play simple chords on those instruments. This session is ideal (though not required) to take after you've completed the "Lyric Writing" and "Composing a Melody" courses.

Anne Buckle - known as WILDWOOD - is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist with songs streamed millions of times. A descendent of the Carter family and a cousin of June Carter Cash, Anne has been called "a refreshing take on a legendary family" by the Nashville Music Guide. She is also a graduate of Harvard. Signed to Kobalt Music and SESAC, Anne has shared the stage with Charlie Daniels, toured with Augustana, opened for the Dixie Chicks on their DCX MMXVI World Tour, performed on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry, and is a regular at the Bluebird Cafe. She has written hundreds of songs with dozens of artists and is a songwriting instructor at the Country Music Hall of Fame, where she is part of the nationally acclaimed Words & Music and Songwriting 101 programs at the Taylor Swift Education Center.

Anne was able to quickly help me fine tune the lyrics to go with a beautiful melody, and taught me about which chords work well together. Have been wanting to learn an instrument for a while and while there are lessons online I think it helps to have someone teach/ guide you in the process and that’s what it was like for me with Anne. You won’t walk away being able to strum all chords and tune to songs but you will get the foundation - learn about “music theory”which to me is a necessary base. I learned about “music theory”; so cool how you learn what chords go together and sound good because they are mathematically calculated! Don’t know if we did the “Nashville numbers”- maybe we just didn’t use the terms. I also had not done the other courses which is recommended but not mandatory. She also provided you with the info sheet so you can use on your own. Would recommend Anne- it was fun, relaxed and she is a very good teacher. Thanks Anne!

Great practical class! I've been struggling to understand why my songs don't have chords that go together with the melody. Most feedback I'd receive is "you need to know some theory." Anne gave me a chart of chords based on the main key and explained why some chords make sense together and others do not. She explained it so well that I now understand how to route my melodies in a musical way. Thanks so much, Anne!
