We will start off this experience by learning about the ingredients (This is a Vegan Class). Then we will go on to learning the various sweets: 1. Making mochi (rice cakes) using glutinous rice flour. You will learn how to make strawberry daifuku mochi. 2. Making your own dango (mochi balls on skewers) by mixing water with two kinds of rice flour, sugar and water and coloring it. 3. Making two kinds of seasonal "nerikiri wagashi"—traditional Japanese sweets. We'll start off with the dough making then you will color and shape the dough into a seasonal motif. 4. Finally, you will taste your creations with a bowl of matcha green tea that you will learn how to make. If you cannot finish the sweets you can take them with you in a box. If you are the first one to book this class, you can also request a Wagashi only Class (4 kinds of nerikiri wagashi) or Mochi Only Class (Strawberry* Daifuku + Namayatuhashi (Cinnamon mochi) + Dango + Ice cream Mochi) You will be notified if the class if it is a Wagashi Only Class or a Mochi Only Class at the time of booking. *Other fruits may be used in case strawberries are not available.
As a certified nerikiri art instructor, I've been teaching the art of nerikiri together and Mochi making at my home to people from around the world. I also hold diploma courses for anyone who would like to learn this art in depth. I've lived abroad and have traveled to almost 40 countries, and I love to entertain people. We'll be at Simply Oishii Japanese Cooking Class located in central Tokyo. Just a short distance from Shibuya and Shinjuku with easy access to major tourist attractions, it will be a great place to enjoy your day in Tokyo. Access: 10 minutes by foot from Meguro Station West Exit. 5 minute by foot from Fudomae Station (Metro). A detailed Map will be provided before class.
