Step out of the city and spend the evening hiking through the mountains to a traditional Irish bar with magnificent views of Dublin. From our start point we'll spend about 40 minutes walking to the edge of Dublin's civilisation where we'll stop for a drink at the Blue Light Bar, overlooking the city with views from Howth to Bray. Carrying on up a sometimes steep climb we'll reach Three Rock Mountain, where we'll be able to enjoy wide ranging views of Dublin Bay , stunning views of the Wicklow mountains and I'll point out the cities major sites and attractions. Here we'll have a home made snack straight out of 80's Ireland (or at least the 80's I remember). Along the way we'll talk about Irish culture, history, myths, and fairy tales. Pick a topic and we'll give it a shot. We'll return to the Blue Light, where we can stop for a well earned pint, and snuggle up to an open turf fire and a possible trad session, or a drink al fresco, depending on the weather. Hopefully the night will be closing in and we'll be able to see the city light up in front of us.
I'm a Donegal native living the Dublin area since 2002. I work in Dublin's Finance Industry by day and like to hike by night. I've traveled the world hiking to Ciudad Perdida, Machu Pichu and the Everest Base Camp. I always found the journey every bit as satisfying as the destination, mainly due to the opportunity it provides to get to know the stories of fellow travelers and the unique local perspective of a guide. I'm well versed in Ireland's history, politics, sport and culture and am happy to tackle any topic as we hike to a pint.
Sangwiches of the 80's variety (don't expect anything nutritious)
We'll start at the Glencairn Luas Stop, hike to the Blue Light Bar and then up Three Rock Mountain where you'll see the whole of Dublin spread out in front of you. We'll continue into the Dublin Mountains, with magnificent view of Wicklow. We'll return back towards the City stopping at The Blue Light, a proper pub with great pints and regular music.
Don't forget walking boots, camera, sunscreen and wet weather gear as appropriate. The hike will be approx 10-12km covering some steep terrain.
