First, we will meet at the Portales of San Pedro Cholula, the millennium-old town outside Puebla. We will walk through the main square and into the 16th Century Convent of San Gabriel Arcángel and its Capilla Real, to discover its unique architectural features and fascinating history, as well as the traditions of Cholula, where Spanish-Catholic conquests met indigenous rituals which take place to this day. From there, we will immerse ourselves in the scents, sounds and sights of the Mercado, full of fresh produce and booming with color. Here we will stop for a few minutes and you will be able to order a traditional cemita or quesadilla. After a quick bite we will head to another 16th Century chapel to admire its altarpiece and learn about the traditions of Cholula, where Spanish-Catholic conquests met indigenous rituals which take place to this day. Next, we will walk under and through the largest-based pyramid in the world, and walk up to the church of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios, which sits on top of the pyramid. Finally, we will end our trek with a cold beer a few blocks from the pyramid.
