Within a few hours, you will be able to construct your own pair of shoes (espadrilles in this case) by picking from a selection of leather in the studio (if you have your own material or would like to go the non-leather route, I will be happy to suggest alternative materials). From there, you can decide on a style you would like to pick then cut and stitch your own pair of shoes onto the soles provided (made out of jute and rubber (so it will be slip free). The types of style you get to make are the mule, sandal or slip-on as shown in the images*. I have collected leather from various sources, mostly reclaimed from different projects to offcuts from manufacturers. While stitching your shoes, we can either chat or indulge in the refreshments provided. The timing of the experience is just indicative, you can stay as along as you need to finish your shoes and also, the start time is flexible *Note: If there are other styles of shoes you would like to make like the full shoe or sneaker style, there will be additional charges as it requires more time to create the item.
My name is Lisa from Lisa Teng Studios. During the past few years, I studied Footwear Design and Making in London, UK. Moving back to tropical Singapore, I worked with a maker space and started running my own company, taking on customisation orders for small leather products and making more footwear (shoe) for customers and running experiences (workshops). I enjoy forming new ideas by combining traditional and modern techniques and creating new products for short workshops such as making espadrilles (plus more products coming up!). Plus, I like conversing with participants, bouncing ideas.
I will just provide snacks, you are welcome to bring a packed lunch to eat while you make your shoes.
Tea, Coffee, Soda No alcohol will be served. For soda, let me know what you prefer after booking.
Materials & Tools The tools and materials will be available to use during the session. You choose between leather or sturdier…
The venue is opposite a synagogue, a brand new property. If you feel it will be difficult to navigate to the venue, I am willing to meet you at any of the MRT stations (Dhoby Ghaut station or Fort Canning station). Let me know the day before the experience.
