In this beginner's taxidermy class, students will learn to skin and mount their own taxidermy mammal (a large mouse, small rat, squirrel, or chipmunk). For the class calendar to see the exact small mammal scheduled for each Saturday and general FAQ page, visit the BROOKLYNTAXIDERMY site. The class includes the lesson, an ethically sourced specimen, and all supplies, including a professional anatomically correct carvable urethane foam taxidermy mannequin, glass eyes, wood base, etc. You will leave the class with your own finished taxidermy piece that you handmade from scratch in class. A select amount of props will also be provided free of charge by the instructor for those interested in anthropomorphizing their taxidermy (giving human characteristics/activities such as hats, clothes, bow ties, miniature tea cups, etc), but an au natural piece is certainly never frowned upon. Your piece is airport friendly for all domestic and international flights! Taxidermy just uses the animal's skin moved onto a foam specimen mannequin, so there is no skeleton etc. All classes are BYOB if you like. Ages 13+ are welcome to attend, those under 18 must have parental consent. Glass domes to protect your creation will be available for purchase at the class for $30. There is no video or audio recording allowed in the class, but taking pics of your work and of the taxidermy studio is permitted. :)
