First, we’ll visit the 300 year old Nezu shrine, which is my favorite shrine in Tokyo. I'll explain the history of the shrine and tell you some interesting stories about it. When you pass through the “100 red gate tunnel”, you’ll feel as if you were going back to the Edo era (17th to 19th century). Secondly, we’ll walk around the Yanaka area, a part of Ueno where many temples and fashionable old shops are located. We’ll visit some ancient temples and learn their history, and we’ll also drop into some downtown pretty shops which are my favorites, and eat snacks if you like! Ueno was one of the battlegrounds in the war that led to the Meiji Restoration in 1868. This conflict between the Shogunate and pro-Imperial forces resulted in the end of samurai society in Japan. I'll explain how the samurai changed their lives after the Meiji Restoration. This tour not only offers you an enjoyable culture walk but also tells you about the end of the samurai as well as giving you an insight into the lives and beliefs of the common people in the Edo period. If you join my other experiences as follows, you would be able to learn many cultures ( tea ceremony, garden, Noh theatre art, poets, architecture ) and some aesthetics of ancient Japanese. ・ ‘Sacred Garden https://abnb.me/JLozb0npRZ ・Discover Zen spirit https://abnb.me/LHmcxHPqRZ ・Explore Zen spirit https://abnb.me/3Hm87EZqRZ
I'm a certified guide at Bunkyo-city, that administers various historical and cultural sites and green in Tokyo. I was born in Tokyo and have spent most of my life. I graduated from university with a degree in Japanese history and culture. During a 7-year stay in Holland I had the pleasure of introducing Japanese traditions to friends from around the world. I have qualifications of instructors of tea ceremony and Ikebana. On the basis of that, I created four “story tours” on Airbnb: 1. Discover Zen Spirit Tea ceremony experience https://abnb.me/2SVn7a6mRZ 2. Sacred garden https://abnb.me/ 3. Tokyo live walk https://abnb.me/ 4. Explore Zen spirit Noh and tea ceremony experience https://abnb.me/JaFeyBCnRZ I've also started new experience withTakako and Memi as follows, “Zen tea ceremony in Japanese garden” https://abnb.me/ldFOPCvT.
The area we visit is a downtown area called Yanesen in the center of Tokyo. There are many ancient temples and shrines here as well as old and new shops, some of which offer delicious snacks. I live very close to this area and shop here every day, so I can take you to many little-known places and tell you lots of things that you won’t find in the guide books.
