Get an insider's history of Better Farm, from 19th-century working farm to 20th-century commune to 21st-century sustainability campus. When you arrive, we'll provide you with a sampling of some homegrown goodies that (depending on the season) could be anything from home-brewed beer, honey, fresh veggies, or home-baked goodies. Following a tasting and history of the farm, we'll take you on a tour of the property so you can meet the pigs and chickens, feed the alpacas and horses, commune with the chickens, check out our cabins and gardens, and tour our Art Barns, studio and venue spaces (where you'll even have a chance to go on-air on our radio station!).
I'm co-founder of Better Farm, an animal sanctuary, artist colony, b&b, sustainability campus and organic farm that began as a commune back in 1970. I've been teaching about sustainability, farming and green living since 2009, and have written two books on the subject. My husband, David, and I have extensive animal husbandry experience and would love to share our knowledge!
Tour Your fee covers admission to the tour!
Better Farm is a totally solar-powered property that's home to dozens of rescued animals, visiting artists-in-residence, students, overnight guests, and all kinds of other visitors from around the world. This tour will give you a behind-the-scenes look at this award-winning location, as well as inspiration to adopt sustainability into your everyday life.
Please be aware that we will be taking you into pens with animals who may be skittish around people. It is very important that you (and any children!) stay calm around the animals!
