We'll probably meet in one of my favourite coffee shops close to the centre of the University. Over a coffee we'll agree on a final route plan and you'll soon find out why Cardiff is famous for its castle, millionaires, historic buildings, parks, free museums, sports stadiums, cutting-edge university facilities and even dragons and angels. If you like art I can even show you a rediscovered Botticelli and one of the world's best art collections. Parts of the city and university are particularly photogenic and I'll show you where the latest Netflix series, "The One", is being filmed in 2020 and also give you the chance to take your own photos and ask questions. The university is large but we'll plan the walk to take in the parts that are of most interest to you. We can stop whenever and wherever you want as this will be your tour. Given notice, I can make appointments for you to meet relevant staff and students along the way and point you to places you may like to visit on your own later. Just let me know in advance and it will be a pleasure to help you make the most of your visit to this fascinating city.
I'm a qualified teacher and walking tour guide with over 30 years experience of teaching and now over 5 years experience of tour guiding. Currently I am a short course associate at Cardiff University and recently published a guide called "Cardiff City of Angels" www.facebook.com/angelscardiff I am lucky enough to have the free time to show people around this wonderful city and university, which for a beginner can be quite confusing. It's definitely best to explore it on foot and I will do my best to show you the most interesting bits and make you feel welcome. If you have more time and want to see it by bike I can help too. This is a private tour but you are welcome to bring along friends/family for free! Just let me know what suits you best and do please feel free to contact me with questions or requests for dates that suit you.
We'll meet near the main University building and I'll show you the Student Union and any University departments and libraries that you are interested in. Please let me know in advance as there are, for instance, 14 different libraries alone! I'll show you Cardiff's Civic Centre, Castle, Stadium, formal parks and impressive early-20th-century buildings, once all dressed in bright white Portland stone financed by black money-making coal!
This is a private tour but you are welcome to bring along friends and family for free! Just let me know. You will need to be reasonably fit and willing to walk! Let me know if this a problem and how much you want to see. For security reasons some buildings may not always have access .
