We will go in an adventure into the Sian Ka'an Bioshpere Reserve located 15 minutes south of Tulum. We will get immersed in the Mayan jungle and experience its liveliness and history. First we will access the Reserve through the Muyil archaeological site which is one of the oldest Mayan cities in the area. We will see the Mayan Temples and walk the jungle trails through the ruins and the lookout spot. Then we will hop on a boat and sail into the Chunyaxché lagoon through commercial routes used by the Mayans. We will then jump in a stream of clear and fresh water where we will float through the mangrove. On the way back we could go grab lunch.
We are Bernardo, Arturo and Alex, 3 friends from Mexico City who love to travel and are passionate about Mexico, its natural environment and cultural richness. We have been practicing eco-tourism for several years, working as guides around Tulum and other parts of Mexico. We love the outdoors and try to focus our experiences in places where you can adventure away from the crowds, admire the natural environment and learn about it to promote its conservation. We look forward to share some of Tulum's magic, beauty and fun with you :)
Mayan Ruins + lagoon
Equipment. lifejacket, bio sunscreen and bio repellent, towels
Muyil is one of the access points to the Sian Ka'an UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Sian Ka'an is mayan for "where the sky is born", offering beautiful scenery in its lagoons and canals in the middle of the jungle. This rainforest and mangrove wetlands are amazingly bio-diverse. The Sian Ka'an Reserve is one of our favorite places in the world. Muyil is a sacred place, pristine jewel of the Mayan world and it is never crowded.
We are visiting a Protected Area. We'll try to contemplate nature in a respectful manner without harming the habitat. Please avoid sunscreen and repellent unless bio-compatible.
