I'll begin this casual experience with a tutorial about the writing instruments, which are delicate and have their own history. The tutorial will help you to understand the background of calligraphy. Next, we'll do an easy exercise because if we stay seated for a long time, ours mind will become diminished. We'll use the calligraphy instruments for the exercise and soon you'll be very comfortable using the brushes. Then, we will try calligraphy. I'll provide some "kanji" character samples to help you with your works. I'll give you some comments but, in any case, do not forget to enjoy yourself.
**IMPORTANT** For the visitor of a group over 5 people, please contact me in advance. I'll arrange a suitable space like as a public conference room. Please feel free to ask me! Hi! Let's enjoy "Sho-do" (Japanese calligraphy) together! I've been teaching calligraphy in English for over 15 years. Throughout my career, I have been honored to be named the best calligraphy instructor in English in Kyoto from the local guides. Let me unveil one of the secrets of this experience—write or draw like you dance. Although calligraphy, itself, is traditional art. However, the style of this experience is not rigid or formal. The creed of this experience is to "just enjoy it" and "feel free." Come on, let's enjoy doing calligraphy together.
Calligraphy tools I'll provide everything. If you wish to purchase tools, including a brush or inkstone, you may do so after…
The experience will take place at an "in-house gallery" located in Nishijin, Kyoto's famed textile district. What's an in-house gallery? Simply to say, it is a 'cozy' 'personal' gallery in the house we live in. We designed and opened a room as an art gallery to share artistic experiences, such as exhibitions and workshops. Although the gallery is quite a small space, there are art pieces—Sho, photos, and paintings—on the wall. It is a calm place.
最多4人參加，年齡須滿3歲。家長可攜帶2歲以下兒童參加。 Open your mind and relax.
If possible, please join with casual clothes which you do not mind getting spots of sumi (ink).
At end of the session, we create "Today's artwork". It is just one letter (Kanji letter). Please expect and imagine what to write. Even if you don't know any Kanji, never mind it! I'll give a sample!
