Learn how to make an artisanal Pisco Sour, enjoy high-quality Peruvian and Chilean Pisco tastings as well as our signature cocktail, the Pisco Punch while learning the fascinating history of Pisco in a fun, social environment. It's a great way to meet new people, learn some history, acquire some cocktail-making skills and warm yourself up with a few drinks in our beautiful speakeasy bar before a night on the town! We meet in the private speakeasy bar of our guesthouse, where we make introductions. First come the pisco tastings - Peruvian and Chilean - to get an idea of the difference between the two and which you prefer. We will then make the world famous Pisco Sour - the national drink of both Chile and Peru. You will make your own drink so that you can bring your newfound skills back home with you. Finally, I will teach you how to make (and make for you to enjoy) our signature cocktail, the refreshing Pisco Punch. Johnny And Cata
Fellow adventurers! My name is Johnny Major, I'm from San Francisco, California and I own a guesthouse and speakeasy bar called Casa California in the heart of the UNESCO district of Valparaiso (Cerro Alegre / Concepcion). I first discovered Pisco in 2003 when I came to Chile for a year abroad during college (also when I met my wife, Cata). My passion for history, travelling, running a bar in Thailand and 8 years enjoying amazing cocktails in SF inspired me to start the Pisco Experience and to share the fascinating history of Pisco with like-minded people looking for a unique, fun and educational experience abroad. I look forward to sharing the history of pisco as well as tips and tricks for an amazing time in this mystical city of Valparaiso.
The experience is held in the beautiful private speakeasy bar of our guesthouse, Casa California. The entire building was recently renovated, and the bar was designed in a classic victorian style. The decorations include old family photographs and daguerrotypes dating back to the 1800s from my wife's Chilean family. It is an enchanting place to meet fellow travellers, enjoy some delicious cocktails and learn about the history of pisco.
