Join me in discovering Melbourne's neighborhood markets from a local’s perspective. Learn how the markets are unique to our city with my own personal insight, interact with the vendors I have hand-picked and taste their mouth-watering local produce. We start at centrally located Southern Cross station and depending on the day we may visit the Queen Victorian Market, the most famous of all Melbourne's markets with a rich history or trying a sea urchin at the South Melbourne Market or sampling salami, olives and a cheese platter at the Prahran market. All the markets I may take you symbolise our multi-cultural society that I call home and boast a history and importance to Melbourne's society. We take the tram to the market, unhurriedly introducing each vendor, who explains the passion behind their food and a rare insight into their history, all with plenty of samples to match the enthusiasm. After reveling in the buzz of the markets, learnt the history, we end with a drink or delicious Gelato where we will happily give you plenty of recommendations to enjoy the rest of your stay in Melbourne..(along with a full belly)
Kellie & Team
A local born and raised Melbournian whose first foray into the market scene was idolising the passionate vendors spruiking their daily bargains while shopping with my mother. Thirty years on, I still visit Melbourne's neighborhood markets to pick up fresh fruit and veg, a delicious borek for lunch or a locally roasted coffee. Now managing the awesome Urban Adventures team, we have built up a relationship with local vendors whose food, stories and rich history we love to share with you but I happen to be unavailable, my equally passionate Urban Adventures team Tristan, Sonja, Evan or Tamara will guide you through the swathe of smells, sights and sounds!
Samples and Tastings
1 x Coffee 1 x Beer, Wine, soft drink or Lovely Gelato depending on market, group and weather!
Depending on the day we will visit a Melbourne neighbourhood market of the guides choice which include tastings and interaction from the local vendors. Tastings from our hand picked vendors range from various local and international cuisines which all make up our multi cultural heritage. Our guides will also discuss the markets rich history, our cities multi culturism and finish with a drink or mouth watering Gelato.
Depending on the market of the day a MYKI transport card may be required. We suggest wait until the day and if required the guide will advise how to buy. The cost isapprox $14 for a card and day pass
