You will be a guest in my studio where we will begin with an introduction to the artistic methods and techniques we will be using, as well as the objects, with which you will be working. Then, we will move in the garden to take in the surrounding countryside where you will find an easel and canvas on which you can experiment and explore, creating your own work of contemporary art using a variety of media. You have the choice of working collaboratively or solo. The experience will be staged somewhat like a performance in three acts: Act 1 - Painting: You will have time to reflect and transmit onto the canvas your initial ideas and energy using the colours and textures that are made available to you. Act 2 - Arte Povera: Using the unconventional approach of this Italian art movement encompassing “the art of common things”, you will introduce to your work found objects such as wood, iron, rags, plastic, industrial waste or items gathered from nature. In a collage or sculptural way, these so-called impoverished materials will adorn your canvas. Act 3 - Spatialism: Adopting the Italian artist Lucio Fontana’s famed technique that fuses colour with sound, space, movement and time.
I graduated from Florence University in Architecture, specialising in urban regeneration through contemporary art. I am the founding producer of the Portaci la Nonna Festival in the Valdarno area of Tuscany; an annual celebration of contemporary music and art. I am interested in travel and meeting people with creative minds. So, I am combining my interests with my professional practice as an architect, art history teacher and artist influenced by the Arte Povera and Spatialism methods, to offer you an immersive day in the Florentine landscape. Together, we will discover, experiment and create contemporary art inspired by the man-made and natural environment.
During and at the end of the experience I will offer refreshing drinks and snacks.
For those arriving by train from Florence I offer transport from the station to my laboratory.
At the beginning of the experience I will offer all the equipment to work and those needed to be safe.
The workshop will take place in my studio and garden in an ancient medieval village I Tuscany. We will work in a way that does not need to conform to traditional practice, but one that welcomes unexpected inspiration and influences. The splendid view of the Florentine hills, the rural and ancient location are offset with contemporary ideas that will regenerate you.
