We'll row off the dock and then set sail in a traditional 17ft. boat from Newfoundland. You'll participate in as much as you'd like from rowing, steering, or handling the mainsail and jib. I will teach you as much as you'd like to know about how to sail, row or navigate this wonderful boat.
Crackers, granola bars, or fruit (*please inform me ahead of time about any food allergies or dietary restrictions).
I've been teaching sailing for more than 20 years, and as a USCG captain for 13 years, including for programs such as Outward Bound, NOLS, and Atlantic Challenge. I've sailed in open boats all over the world from Baja, Mexico's Gulf of California to the Norwegian arctic. I recently founded Maritime World Expeditions, which brings groups on international adventure tours to experience traditional boats from around the world.
We'll most likely stick to the harbor or just outside the harbor in Belfast. You'll get to have the unique perspective of seeing the town, islands in the bay, and the rolling hills of the Maine coast from the water while learning to sail a wonderful and unique traditional boat.
The weather will ultimately dictate our plans. If it's too windy, rainy, or stormy, we'll have to cancel the rowing/sailing experience. You'll be refunded if we can't go out due to the weather.
