This is ( in my opinion ) the most beautiful place in all of New York City. It is a photographers dream come true. I hope to convince you of that by the end of our tour. Green-Wood Cemetery is New York's oldest landscaped space. Its 478 acres are jam-packed with natural beauty, amazing sculptural works, architectural treasures and countless historical tales. We will visit the graves of some of New York's most influential citizens; and see amazing views of the Manhattan skyline as we walk to the highest natural point in Brooklyn. This tour will give you a grand overview of the history, art, architecture and flora of what was really New York’s first public park. Together we'll explore the beauty and mystery of this Brooklyn treasure. Please note - this is the only private driving tour of the cemetery offered anywhere. My car holds up to 3 passengers and we'll drive around the cemetery with as many stops as you want to make. Along the way we'll get out and walk to some special locations. On my tour you get to see much more of the cemetery than your average tourist, plus I know all the great spots. Having the car also means we don't get rained out - ever!
I am a New York City Tour Guide specializing in Manhattan and Brooklyn with an emphasis on the cemeteries of the area. I am the Head Historic Tour Guide at The Evergreens Cemetery and part of the staff of guides at Green-Wood Cemetery. * Green-Wood Cemetery is not a sponsor of my tours given through Airbnb Experiences.
Every guest will receive a full-color souvenir map of the cemetery.
We will trace the origin of the rural cemetery in America and learn about American views of death and burial. Along our journey we will encounter Masons, Odd-Fellows, famous musicians , artists, inventors, politicians, power brokers and a few surprise critters as well! We'll visit one of the most important battle sites of the American Revolution while we walk to the highest natural point in Brooklyn.
Bring your camera and sunscreen if needed. Bring your own water or drinks since none are for sale at the venue. You must be able to walk on uneven terrain and climb a few stairs at different times.
