This is the mexican walking tour of San Miguel de Allende. We meet in front of the parrish to start talking about the origins of the city, the viceroyal San Miguel and the Independence of Mexico. Then, we enter the parrish to have the experience of devotion, so important in San Miguel´s history and sense of place. Then, we start a tour through out the historic city, we go to Bellas Artes to see the mural painting and talk about the history of the art schools. We visit the Biblioteca, Plaza de la Soledad and San Francisco church, we talk about some of the important families, heroes and characters in the history of the city. If you want we can go to the market to have a glass of agave nectar, an ancestral beverage of indigenous Mexico, we end the tour in the Jardín.
I know San Miguel since 1992 and I have been living here since 2009. I love San Miguel, its people, its cultures and its history. As president of the Friends of the Historical Museum of the city I have been part of the civil movement that is trying to protect San Miguel´s heritage from uncontrolled development. I am doing research on different topics about the archaeology, history and art of the city. Walk with me through San Miguel, I want to share my mexican view of this world heritage city. Let me share with you the many sanmigueles inside San Miguel, from the point of view of a mexican.
A glass of agave nectar in the market place. A super healthy sweet juice that is extracted from the agave plant.
