I'm offering a fun workshop where you will dye a wool or silk scarf that you can wear while exploring the sometimes chilly California coast and bring back home as a souvenir to keep those memories alive! During the workshop you will learn the process of natural dyeing from extracting dyes from local plants dyeing a scarf. Inspired by the traditions in this region we will use acorn, eucalyptus leaves and coffee berry bush leaves. You will have a choice of dyes to work with. The workshop is very much hands on, you will be working on your own projects and make your own natural dyes for your scarf.
I taught both children and adults in textile crafts and art for almost thirty years in Finland and trained teachers in that field at the University of Helsinki. Since moving to California two years ago I've opened my own fiber art studio where I continue weaving, dyeing wool using local plants, and teaching workshops on knitting, dyeing and up-cycling materials such as textiles and plastics. I embrace traditions and meld those ideas and methods with modern skills. I'm committed to environmentally sustainable crafts and would like to share the joy of creating and making with you.
Nuts, fruit and drinks.
A choice of a fine wool or silk scarf (sizes 11"x60" to 30"x72")
The workshop takes place at Auli's Studio. We will work partly inside the studio, but dyeing process takes place outdoors. My studio is on our peaceful and naturally beautiful property next to national parkland not far from Muir Woods and only 10 minutes from the Golden Gate Bridge.
最多8人參加，年齡須滿14歲。 You don't need any previous experience in textile art or craft.
The dyeing workshop is hands on and the quests are doing all the steps of natural dyeing. The workshop is not suitable for small children, since we will be handling hot liquids.
