Since opening in 2009, the Highline Park has fast become one of NYC's most popular attractions. This long and very narrow park now averages 7 million visitors a year. And no wonder, it is truly a unique space where history, horticulture and architecture intersect. We'll walk the 1.4 mile (2.3 km) length of the Highline as it snakes through some of Manhattan's most charming and picturesque neighborhoods. We'll begin in Meatpacking District, which has transformed from gritty industrial space of working class immigrants, to its current incarnation of glamorous designer shops, restaurants a lofts (like that of Samantha Jones on Sex and the City). It's up to Chelsea, where maybe we'll find time for cup of coffee, in the old Nabisco factory that is now the charming Chelsea Market. We'll finish at Hudson Yards, New York's newest and shiniest neighborhood comprising 28 acres and over 18 million square feet of office, retail, and residential space. I'll leave you to climb the Vessel, or enjoy the shops and the restaurants. My tour covers a wide variety topics from the history of these neighborhoods, to the world class architecture that surrounds it, the public art that adorns it, to the transformation of this space from an abandoned railroad track to the beautiful garden in the sky.
