We are city slickers turned farm lovers! Finbarr McCarthy and Eleanor McGrath have embarked on a farm adventure and welcome you to join them! As members of the Agriculture Council and Organic farm association, they offer a range of experience on the growing and harvesting of heritage produce for a market garden. Local farmers will join them to teach additional farming methods. This is truly hands-on! Springfield Farm is the only farm in our region offering the opportunity for guests to join in organic farming experience.
A hearty home made meal from the organic produce and local producers will be served as well as snacks and beverages.
Upon arrival at Springfield Farm, we will gather in the new traditional post and beam barn for orientation and farm safety lesson. We will enjoy a hot coffee/tea/hot cocoa and light snack before we head out on the weather-permitting traditional farm activity. There are 118 acres of farm fields and forests to explore and learn first-hand farming techniques, foraging, maple syrup production, field stone wall making and astronomy.
We recommend to come prepared for work with clothes that are comfortable and seasonally appropriate, wellies or workshoes/boots.
