Singapore is renowned for being a cultural melting pot especially when it comes to food. In this experience, you will learn how to make the quintessential Singaporean meal; Nasi Lemak from scratch. You will be welcomed into my home at Punggol. Before starting the class, you will have the chance to try 5 different types of local snacks originating from the different cultures in Singapore. After that, we will start the class where you will learn how to prepare and cook Nasi Lemak from scratch. Nasi Lemak is a heritage dish consisting of aromatic rice infused with coconut milk and pandan leaf served alongside tumeric marinated deep fried chicken/fish, peanut and fried ikan bilis (anchovies), sliced cucumbers, sunny side up egg and spicy sweet sambal (chilli paste). Finally, you will get to enjoy your homecooked meal and top it off with a typical Malay dessert, Pengat Pisang (banana in sweetened coconut milk with sago). P.S. If there is a particular local Singaporean dish that you would like to try or learn to cook, do ask me about it. I would be more than happy to accommodate and tweak the menu if I am able to!
What started as a new year's resolution in 2014 has turned out to be my favourite pursuit of happiness. Food is my language of love. I was fortunate enough to grow up among the best cooks i.e. my grandmothers and mother; I have been learning ever since. I love to cook for my family and friends (and basically anyone and everyone who has ever crossed paths with me) and I figured it’s time to open my kitchen to new friends. “Jemput” is a common Malay greeting where one invites another to join the feast. So today, I will like to “jemput” you to my kitchen and we will have a great meal together!
Let me know if you have any special dietary restrictions and I will do my best to accommodate.
The session will be conducted at my cosy home located on the north-eastern side of Singapore, Punggol. We might even get to visit the local supermarket.
