Starting from Puerto Jimenez before dawn, we move by car, transporting our Guests and Kayaks to a Small Valley out of the main Roads and paths, at a point where an Ancient Water Trails, that we just reopened to the public use, starts running along farmlands and forested areas. After 10 km of this environment, the landscape changes, as the Trekkers enter in the biggest and more pristine Wetland of the Country, covered by Raphia taedigera forests. All along this Water Trail, once the only communication way from the Valley to the small town of Sierpe, the wildlife is abundant and friendly, offering great possibilities for Bird watching and Photography. The guide is explaining the complexity of this unique environment and the relation with the birds , mammals and reptiles that live here. After 20 Km of trail, the Trekkers enter in the waters of the Sierpe River, that depending by the tide, can run toward the mouth or, toward the source, making a little more challenging the last 5 km of paddling until the village of Sierpe, where the truck is waiting for the trip back to Puerto Jimenez. Along the trail there will be some stop for wildlife observation, some refreshing drink and rest.
It is 25 years that I live in the Osa Peninsula. I built from Scratches the First Adventure Lodge in the Osa and, 25 years ago, created and run the Corcovado Ring Adventure Trek, the first ever Adventure Tour here Around. I brought people along the Rivers and Mangrove canals of the Sierpe Terraba Wetland Complex, by Kayak and Boat, I brought Fishermen out in the pacific to catch big game, I rescue endangered animals as birds and snakes and returned them to the wild, and went in inside the Forests of the Central Ridge reclaiming huge fallen trees...I know the Osa, its Nature and People.
