1.Guest will be given a briefing on managing urban honeybee hives and how honeybees act as pollinators for food supply. 2.We will inspect a live hive to observe the bee's activity within the hive and on the frames--identifying patterns of brood, larva, pollen and honey. 3.Hunt for the honey stores on the frames ready for harvest and manually extract honey from a capped frame. 4. Taste the honey from the hive and head to the kitchen to prepare a snack, drink or desert made with the local honey. 5. visit an urban rooftop hive-- weather permitting-- and enjoy a honey infused cocktail.
I'm an urban beekeeper and founder of DC Honey Co. LLC, DC Backyard Honey and DC Backyard Bees. I work with class A commercial real estate office buildings and top tier Hotel brands to establish urban rooftop honey bee hives/colonies and the production of honey, in our nations capital. I manage my own urban honeybee apiary and gardens in the heart of Washington, DC, where I have worked with honey bees for the past 3 years to promote and educate residents on the critical roles that honey bees play as key pollinators in our ecosystem.
