I will guide you through some of the most beautiful views in Southern California while sharing some mind-blowing historical trivia bombs on ya. We will meet at the King Neptune fountain in the historic Malaga Cove Plaza (the first market on the hill), then go up and over the Malaga Dunes, along the Olmsted Creek trail, across the Del Sol Fire trail, down through the neighborhood, passed the infamous La Venta Inn (the first structure ever built on the hill) across Palos Verdes Blvd, down into Bluff Cove, where we will be mesmerized by the ocean and bluffs (and learn a little about what was originally planned to be developed here). We will then head back to Malaga Plaza along the Bluff Top Trail, we will walk by the Neighborhood Church (formerly JJ Haggerty’s haunted mansion and beach, which is even name dropped in the famous Beach Boys song “Surfin’ USA”. The entire hike is a 5 mile loop and will take approximately 2 hours. It’s a beginner to intermediate hike - with a few moderate elevation climbs at the beginning and the end, it’s recommended to wear good hiking shoes, a hat, sunscreen , bring a bottle of water and don’t forget your cameras!
I’m artist & entrepreneur with my own gallery/boutique called “Embrace the Weird”, located in San Pedro. I have been a resident of the South Bay since 2012. For the last few years I have been hosting community hikes, creating fun outdoor adventures in order to get to know my neighbors better. Many life-long residents of the area have been sharing the local oral history and mythologies of the community with me, this spiraled me down a rabbit hole of local history books, lots of researching & lots of library archive time. I began to share what I learned on my hikes with neighbors, they suggested I give legit tours...so here we are! Additionally, I’ve received a 2-year CPR & First Aid certification issued by the American Red Cross (May 29th, 2019).
I’ll bring some bottled water, for those who forget their own.
Sunscreen, for those who forgot.
Malaga Cove is one of the most beautiful areas in Southern California, USA Today says “It has the most beautiful coastal views in LA County” and is just minutes away from the world famous Terranea Resort. We will begin and end the hike in Malaga Cove Plaza (I will make sure you get back to your cars, lol). We will take in the best views of LA’s famous Queens Necklace and enjoy the most lush nature in the South Bay!
