I'll greet you at my door and introduce you to my kitchen. It's a typical Syrian kitchen in Istanbul and will likely mirror your own kitchen back home. I'm from Damascus so the dishes we learn will reflect the Damascene food scene. For cooking classes in the morning, we will learn "Tisiye," a dish made of chickpeas, bread, and seasoning. This dish is widely popular as a Syrian breakfast. For cooking classes in the afternoon, we will learn "Mloukhia," a dish made of rice, chicken, and the popular leaves of the Corchorus olitorius plant. Every Syrian knows and loves this household dish. For cooking classes in the evening, we will learn "Maqlouba," made of rice, eggplant, beef, and nuts, this dish will amaze your friends back home. You will make your own, individual dish. At the end of the class, you can devour your food right away or take it home with you.
My name is Ahmed and I fled Syria over 5 years ago and made a new home in Istanbul. To keep my homeland alive, I began to practice cooking traditional Syrian dishes and started to teach friends once I became a seasoned expert. I am extremely passionate about food and bringing people together over a delicious spread, and can't wait to meet new people from all over the world who can take these Syrian dishes back to their homeland as well.
