After a VERY early-morning pick-up, we will drive to the base of the hiking trail. After a short briefing, you’ll embark on your journey to Preikestolen. You’ll begin your outdoor adventure in darkness, hiking with headlamps. Hiking in the hushed silence of night is in itself an experience. Though animals are shy around people, it’s a certainty that they’ll be awake and alert, observing you from behind the old trees and scattered boulders that surround the trail. While the wildlife watches, your guide will lead you up through the shifting terrain, which includes bogs, forests, and glacier-scoured mountains. After approximately 2.5 hours of hiking, you’ll reach the Preikestolen plateau just before sunrise. You’ll watch as the first beams of sunlight climb over the horizon and illuminate the Lysefjord’s steep mountain walls. You’ll have ample time to take photos and enjoy a warm beverage and snack atop Preikestolen. Long before the first tourist-packed busses arrive, you’ll be on your way back down the trail to conclude your unique hiking adventure with a well-deserved breakfast (included).
I'm the founder of local guiding company Outdoorlife Norway. I have a Masters degree in Nature-based Tourism (NMBU) and am a certified Arctic Nature Guide (UiT). Before leading guided hiking tours, I worked 5 seasons at Stavanger's Tourist Information Office. I have hiked Preikestolen approximately 250 times (and counting). I am the guide who first came up with the idea of hiking to Preikestolen to see the sunrise. Together with my friends/colleagues, we form a team of 4 highly dedicated, educated and experienced local guides that would love to share our great nature with you!
