I will invite you into my home in a typical housing estate, where an average Singaporean lives. I will teach you the basics of Mahjong (the game seen on Crazy Rich Asians!), and you will then learn by experiencing and playing on your own, with guidance. Do not worry if you do not know how to read Chinese characters, the mahjong tiles are very pictorial and I will provide a guide sheet for you to use as reference in identifying the tiles. You will also get to recognise some Chinese characters (especially the numbers) along the way! At the end of the session, you will understand the scene from Crazy Rich Asians like a pro. My parents or friends might join in so you can look forward to a good chat and good time together. Also included: bonus tour of a typical public housing home! If you are really keen and there is no availability at the moment, write in to me and we can see how we can make it happen! Write in to me too if you would like to make a private or corporate booking. View more pictures @mahjonglah on Instagram, and follow us too! As featured on the largest Singapore-based Chinese-language newspaper, LianHe ZaoBao, Channel 8 news, Mothership, Hype & Stuff and other online platforms. I am an educator and I love teaching! It excites me to be able to share this beloved past time with you, for you to be able to experience this very local activity. Mahjong is a nostalgic part of my teenage years and early 20s, it represents a certain carefree lifestyle for me and my friends. Friends would come over and play till the middle of the night before we adjourn to supper, for more conversations and laughter. Now, it is a great way for me to get to meet people from all over the world and exchange culture and stories. Anything can happen over a mahjong table, let's create some memories!
Light local snacks. Please inform us if you have any dietary restrictions :)
The session will be in my home in a typical housing estate. On your way here from the train station (NS14 Khatib), you have the opportunity to wander through local stores and experience the hustle bustle of a neighbourhood. From the train station, there is a shuttle service every 10-20 minutes to the Singapore Zoo/ Night Safari, so you can plan to visit them on the same day as this experience.
最多4人參加，年齡須滿16歲。 You do not have to know how to read the Chinese characters on the tiles to play the game. We will have a guide sheet for you to refer to easily.
A minimum of 2 sign ups per session is required. If there are insufficient sign ups, you will be notified 1-2 days in advance for alternative arrangements. This is not a gambling event, no money is involved except for the fees paid. Dress comfortably, the venue has many fans but not air-conditioned.
