We will meet at Kenmare Pier and I will introduce you to the local geology and how the landscape has formed, we will then look at the shore together, and I will help you to identify the different organisms present, such as birds, snails, molluscs, crabs etc. Especially seaweeds fascinate me. I will focus on edible species and can give you tips of how to integrate these superfoods in your daily diet. The tours are tailored to your physical abilities and based on your knowledge. We will walk and talk and I will share my knowledge about the local, but also the global aspects of the Marine environment, such as water- currents, fisheries and pollution. And give advice of what each one of us can do to protect and support our biodiversity. I love doing tours with children, getting creative by gathering shells, algae and plastics creating some form of art or jewellery. It is a fun day out for all the family indeed.
After finishing a Masters degree in Marine Biology and Oceanography at Bangor University I decided to come back to my favourite place in the world, the Emerald Isle. Sharing my enthusiasm about the shore. There is so much to explore in the tidal zone, from the mudflats to the rock pools. Learning more about the geological evolution, forming the landscape and the organisms that are continuously adapting to this ever changing extreme environment. Sharing my knowledge, discovering new things about this beautiful Microcosmos and using it in a sustainable way is my hobby and job.
