Rendez vous "Place de Lenche", in front of the monument "Henri Tasso ( ex Maire de Marseille) you will recognise me by my blue and white polka dot umbrella. Our rendez vous will be from here we will follow the steps of the first Greek arrivals from Phocée, these followed by the Etruscans and the Romans. As we head to the town forum you may experience recitals of classical poetry and literature , imagine urban triumphs as victorious generals return from military campaigns in the provinces, visite slave markets , seek oracles and finish our tour by offering some libations. We will discuss history, politics, and social conditions relating to each period as we travel along our time line eventually with neoclassicism flourishing under the Directoire and the Empire of Bonaparte with a return of the classical styles . The tour will be given simultaneously in English and French.

Its origins from the Greeks , Etruscans and then Romans with the inevitable displacement of the local tribes makes every step you take a breathtaking minefield of information. Motivated by a love of history and archeology, Classical Studies, ( history , philosophy , politics, architecture ,literature including poetry and the Greek and Latin languages )in which I have a degree (2017 ) is the ideal medium with which to explore the cultural origins of Marseille and its surrounding region. The heritage of Marseille lies under our feet the let's explore it together.

We will endeavour to trace the arrival of the Greeks with their Gods Artemis & Apollo as they arrive from Phocée , search for the city gates, the Agora , their temples and try to interview some local tribes.With the Roman takeover of the Greek world our next steps will be in Roman sandals, to discover the ones who came on conquest and those that died , changing the history of Marseille and Roman Empire. Finally an offering of libations.
